PedEpiSurg Gothenburg 2014

We are writing to you on behalf of the Organising Committee of the forthcoming Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Meeting to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden on July 4th and 5th 2014. This meeting follows on from the 11th European Congress on Epileptology which is being held in Stockholm from June 29th to July 3rd. The inspiration for this meeting came from the realisation that there is a wide difference in surgical practice from institution to institution, from country to country and from continent to continent. In addition much of the discussion at Epilepsy Surgery Meetings goes into case selection and outcome, whilst surgical method and technique receives little or no consideration, particularly amongst our Physician colleagues. We began exploring some of these issues with an internet survey conducted in 2013 and following presentation of this data to the Pediatric Surgery Taskforce of the ILAE, we obtained a mandate to arrange this meeting.

We would like to invite you to attend this meeting as an active participant. It is intended for this meeting to be as interactive as possible, with the sharing of surgical experience across the globe. We hope that through discussion we may eventually reach some consensus views on surgical approaches and techniques and share experiences to reduce morbidity and improve outcome. All of the delegates will be surgeons with a special interest in Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery but not all of them necessarily with a huge clinical experience. Our intention is that by sharing knowledge and experience the surgical speciality will be enriched. Please share this invitation with your surgical colleagues as we would like to include as many surgeons as possible in the meeting.

The meeting is supported by the ILAE Pediatric Commission and also by the Sahlgrenska Academy of Gothenburg. There is no charge for attending the meeting, which will also receive commercial sponsorship but delegates will be required to pay for their travel and accommodation.

Looking forward to seeing you in Gothenburg in July!
